The embodiment of a sustainable transformation
The new Honda 0 Series was first revealed to the general public at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 in Las Vegas, a world premiere where Honda revealed two concept models: the Saloon and Space-Hub. The new series of EVs embodies Honda’s transformation in line with its global brand slogan ‘How we move you’ and the electrification policy that is part of Honda’s vision for the future.
Zero emissions, zero fatalities
The name of the series refers to Honda’s determination only to sell zero-emission vehicles worldwide by 2040. That’s why Honda has gone back to its roots as a car manufacturer for this series, creating entirely new EVs from scratch. In other words, these are dedicated electric models, cars that were intended as EVs from the outset, which will not be available with combustion engines. The ‘0’ also stands for the goal of reducing the number of road accident fatalities to zero by 2050, with the help of advanced safety technologies.
A thin, light and wise model
The Honda 0 Series is being developed with a new approach that aims for a thin, light and wise model. The styling of the Honda 0 Series is characterised by a low vehicle height that utilises a dedicated thin EV platform to enable a low floor height. In combination with the design, this ensures excellent aerodynamic performance, giving the vehicle a light, dynamic feel. Honda also aims for sporty driving performance that defies the established beliefs people have about EVs. The models in the 0 series also contain original Honda technology, using smart software and artificial intelligence. This AD/ADAS technology (automated driving/advanced driver-assistance system) includes all kinds of driver assistance systems to automate and enhance the car’s safety, guaranteeing a safe ride and peace of mind for everyone in the car. This way, the car’s connected technologies create a genuine space for humans.
Electrical efficiency, fast charging and minimal battery degradation
Honda has extensive experience of developing hybrid vehicles. It applies this knowledge of electrification technology in the 0 Series to deliver outstanding performance in terms of electrical efficiency. This is because these models have e-axles: compact, electric motor units that contribute to weight reduction, space efficiency and ultimate aerodynamics. They ensure a maximum range while minimizing the battery capacity required by the vehicle. That means fast-charging from 15% to 80% will be possible in just 10-15 minutes. Furthermore, Honda has refined its battery system control technology based on driving data from more than one million Honda electric vehicles. This optimisation will limit the degradation of battery capacity to less than 10% after 10 years of use.
